Research Interests:
Linguistics: Phonology, Tones, Optimality Theory, Representation of tones, Perception
My main area of interest revolves around studying how certain languages employ ‘tones’ to convey meaning. My first project, titled Exemplars, categories and constraint interactions in the tonal phonology of Yoruba provides an OT account of certain tonal phenomena in Yoruba, a Bantu language. I am also interested in possible mental representations of tonal patterns, and effects on perception and interactions of lexical and musical pitch.
